I'm a small business owner, I have actually had a retail shop before which didn't do
too well, so I know the stress that small businesses are under, levi jeans cheap especially at the
moment. I know you have to compete against the internet and all that techie stuff that
small business guys probably don't understand.
So let me tell you where I think small businesses are missing out big time.
Look, I can go into any shop in my local mall, or indeed anywhere, buy something, and
walk out. Now let's see what just happened here. The business owner let an existing
customer (and retaining the customers you already have is a much easier way to increase
your bottom line than trying to get new ones) just walk away, probably never to be seen
again.
I'll tell you a true story, manolo shoesone that happened not half an hour ago, and which inspired
me to write this article. I went to my local shopping centre to pick up a few
groceries. As I came back to my car, I noticed one of those sandwich board type signs
on the footpath. It read "Special today - chicken wings $1.89 a kilo" Now US readers
will have to convert that into pounds, but anyway, be assured that is a pretty cheap
price. Now I must confess - I like chicken wings, marinated in soya sauce and honey, or
satay, so I wandered into the shop and bought $10 worth of chicken wings (that is a LOT
of chicken wings!)
As I walked out, I gave the girl behind the counter my business card, and said "Look,
I'll buy chicken wings at that price every time you have them on sale. Tell the owner
to give me a call, and I'll show him how he could have sent me an SMS telling me that
the sale was on, and I would have come up and bought some chicken wings and probably
some other stuff as well"
Now I don't know if the girl will ever give her boss my business card, skinny denim jeans but for the
purposes of this article that doesn't matter.
What does matter is that it is a practical example of what business owners are doing
wrong, and what they could be doing to put it right.
It's like these businesses are catching customers in a big fishing net, but the mesh is
too big, and letting the customers just fall through the holes.
So, every time I walk into a shop, I should ask "Where's the fishbowl?" You know when
you go to seminars and meetings, or a bar, there's sometimes a fishbowl on the counter,
and you put your business card into the bowl for a chance to win a bottle of wine or
something.
So the first thing I would tell you is that if you are selling anything, you need to be
capturing your customer's email address.True Religion Mens Flare Jeans That's all - you don't need anything else. Now
it may not be a physical fishbowl, but it must be something. Even a simple visitor's
book will do.
OK, that's just one thing to do, but if you do nothing else, at least do this!
